FAQs

What are the benefits of working with Atlanta Mobile Veterinary Specialists?

By providing advanced diagnostics and therapeutics in your hospital with Atlanta Mobile Veterinary Specialists, you can deliver enhanced service to your clients and patients while getting the diagnostics you need and maintaining primary management and associated revenue of the case. Dr. McCown is thorough, logical, and dedicated to treating your patients and staff with kindness, compassion, and respect.

How does working with Atlanta Mobile Veterinary Specialists differ from traditional referral?

Our service differs from referring to an outside specialty hospital in that all communication will be done with the primary veterinarian. We do not offer direct consultations or follow up with clients.

How do Atlanta Mobile Veterinary Specialists visits work?

Appointment windows are available Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm. Given the nature of mobile practice and variability in traffic, we must give a window.

Records for consultation cases and previous pertinent radiographs can be be made available at the time of the visit.

The patient should be dropped off the morning of the consultation or procedure and fasted for the previous 12 hours unless medically contraindicated (diabetics, hypoglycemic patients, etc). We are happy to advise if there are uncertainties for a given case.

We will discuss our findings directly with the primary veterinarian at the time of service and a written report will be completed and emailed within 24 hours.

Please note that we do not meet directly with the client. All communication will be with the referring veterinarian, who remains the primary contact on the case.

How do I get more information, a list of services and fees, or schedule an appointment?

Veterinarians and veterinary staff can call (404) 865-3528 or contact us by email to schedule an appointment, request a fee sheet, or speak with Dr. McCown. Certain geographic restrictions currently apply.

What is needed from the referring clinic during the visit?

An assistant or technician of the clinic will need to be available during the appointment to assist with patient restraint and, if necessary, sedation. For endoscopic procedures, anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery need to be provided. A darkened, quiet room is ideal for sonographic and endoscopic procedures.

Any sedation or anesthesia needed for procedures must be provided by the clinic. We are happy to provide guidance on appropriate protocols for each procedure. All other supplies are provided by Atlanta Mobile Veterinary Specialists unless specified in the service description.

Patients undergoing ultrasound procedures will need to have permission to be shaved.

A recent platelet count is recommended prior to performing fine needle aspirations on patients.

Diagnostic samples (biopsies, cytologies, etc.) can be submitted by the primary veterinarian to the laboratory of their choosing; results should be forwarded to Dr. McCown if additional consultation is requested.

How is payment handled?

Clinics will be billed directly for these services. The final price ultimately charged to the client is at the discretion of the clinic. We do not accept payment directly from the client.
